The New York Times reported last week that New York lawmakers voted late Friday to legalize same-sex marriage, making New York the largest state where gay and lesbian couples will be able to wed.
The marriage bill was approved 33 to 29 by the NY Senate.
Republican Senator Mark J. Grisanti of Buffalo, who sought office promising to be a staunch opponent of same-sex marriages, admitted to his colleagues that he reversed his position after months of careful thought.
“I apologize for those who feel offended,” Mr. Grisanti said, adding, “I cannot deny a person, a human being, a taxpayer, a worker, the people of my district and across this state, the State of New York, and those people who make this the great state that it is the same rights that I have with my wife.”
This is a great time to point out that MyDeejay is proud to support the rights of all couples, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender couples, to legally marry in the United States. Our LGBT weddings are second-to-none in the DC metro area and we are thrilled to hear this great news out of New York!
