Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it’s time to get to know another MyDeejay disc jockey. Meet Brian Jones, a North Carolina native who’s now living it up in Washington, D.C. Brian’s our resident indie music expert and is seriously the nicest person ever. Who’s ready to learn all about Brian? Hopefully, you are!
What’s the first concert you ever attended? The first concert I ever attended was Cursive, Minus the Bear, and Pretty Girls Make Graves at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC. This was back in high school and since we grew up on the Outer Banks, my friends and I became accustomed to driving upwards of 3 hours to Raleigh, Norfolk, or Chapel Hill just to see our favorite bands play.
What’s the *best* concert you ever attended? Akron/Family played a show at a small coffeehouse called The Warehouse in Winston-Salem several years ago. They played for what felt like three or four hours and ended the show by passing out tambourines and percussion instruments and leading the audience in a sing-along of a Neil Young song.
What’s something most people can do that you cannot? Enjoy a Bloody Mary. I don't see how anyone can drink those!
Hanging on the NC beach... shocker!
What is your favorite place on Earth? When we were young, my friends and I used to explore the dunes and woods around Kill Devil Hills and we almost always ended up at the same spot: a giant dune that sloped steeply until it disappeared into the trees and brush below, which eventually met the sound. Completely isolated from signs of civilization, it was always a peaceful, inspiring place.
What’s the best love song ever written? "This Must Be The Place" by David Byrne is my favorite love song because of its simple and beautiful honesty.
What is a talent you wish you had? I wish I could ice skate! I've tried a few times and I always seem to hurt myself, but I'm jealous of how easy it seems for everyone when they open up the rink at the Sculpture Garden in DC.
What music artists would you love to see on a client’s playlist for a wedding? Fortunately, this question isn't hypothetical! I regularly see artists on client's playlists that I LOVE to play! Daft Punk, The Postal Service, MGMT, and so many other acts that I enjoy listening to often show up on request lists for couples.
