According to a recent survey by the Wedding Report, 1 in 6 soon-to-be-married couples met online. This is a pretty astounding finding if you consider the fact that when online dating emerged in the mid-1990s, there was still a bit of a stigma associated with meeting online. My how things change!
Of the 1407 couples asked if they met their future spouse online, 16% (1 in 6) said yes.
According to their findings, 1 in 10 of those who met online were connected through an online dating site. The next highest percentage of couples (1 in 50) who met online did so through a social networking site such as Twitter or Facebook. 1 in 125 met in an online chat room, while 1 in 200 met through online gaming or some other virtual world. 1 in 313 met on a personal website or blog, or through direct contact via email or text messaging.
