Beginning his music career as a drummer and music producer before becoming a wedding DJ has given DJ Tim Preston a unique perspective on the role and power of music to create unforgettable moments. We asked Tim for his thoughts about DJing weddings, and here’s what he shared!
What is your relationship with music? What does it mean to you?
“I have always been around music, from listening to old albums on my parents’ record player to first taking up the drums in elementary school, to being in various bands across the DC area, and now as a professional DJ. Music is something that’s a part of me, and enriches my life every single day.”
What do you enjoy about being a wedding DJ?
“First and foremost the music, weddings are especially great because of the wide range of songs I get to play. I also love the energy from the crowd – when the beat is thumping and you’ve chosen just the right song for that moment, you can feel the positive vibes pick way, way up… it’s a rush for sure!”
What’s your favorite kind of couple/crowd to work with?
“I like them all! I find that every couple is different – different music tastes, different expectations, and different goals. Plus, every crowd is different, so it’s always a thrill for me to find what makes a couple and crowd click and get them out on the floor and dancing!”
What’s the best one or two pieces of advice you give to couples?
“Relax! It’s your big day — it’s going to be awesome and memorable and everyone will have a great time, so go out there and have the time of your life. Leave all the tough stuff to your vendor team, it’s our job to make sure everything happens the right way.”
What are some fun or interesting things about you that couples might want to know?
“Aside from music, I really love travelling and have even lived abroad. I always love checking out the music scene of whatever country I’m in – there are some really great bands and DJs around the world!”
